However, I have been working on a project that may be of interest to you, so I'm announcing it here. It may be of value to you personally, and equally important, it can provide a way to discover, recognize, and develop people who are recognized as leaders in the community. I'm writing to tell you about the Inspiration Project. In a nutshell, I'd describe the project like this: You can think of it as 'Pay it Forward' meets 'Six Degrees of Separation' or 'Six Degrees of Inspiration'. It's a living history of how everyday actions by everyday people can wind up changing peoples' lives and transforming the world. It's a social networking web site, focused on relationships and stories where one person has helped to inspire the other. . Each person can create their own network of valued connections, and when you put them all together you get the Roots of Inspiration Network. That's what I'm trying to build. The web site is at HYPERLINK "http://www.inspirationproject.org/"http://www.inspirationproject.org. Right now the site is just getting going, and most of the stories are of a personal nature. However, I think there is some potential there for broader use -- in developing and promoting communication, encouraging activists, and developing leaders. If this intrigues you, check it out and sign up. Feel free to start sending out your own invitations or stories. If you'd like to discuss this more and explore ways that the site can be useful to you and your center, feel free to contact me. As the choice of presidential candidates becomes clearer and election year moves towards a comparison of the candidates platforms on the issues, technology policy is increasingly relevant to the forefront of public debate. In the areas of privacy, intellectual property, cybersecurity, telecommunications, and freedom of speech, topics that were once confined to experts now appear in the mainstream of political issues. We now know that our decisions about technology policy are being made at a time as the architectures of our information and communication technologies are still being built. This year, the 18th annual Computers, Freedom, and Privacy conference is focusing on those issues at the forefront of technology policy this election year. With plenary panels on the National Security State and the Next Administration and The 21st Century Panopticon? the discussions taking place look towards our present and future priorities. CFP: Technology Policy '08 is an opportunity to participate in shaping those issues being made into laws and regulations and those technological infrastructures being developed. Policies ranging from spyware and national security, to ISP filtering and patent reform, e- voting to electronic medical records, and more will be addressed by expert panels of technologists, policymakers, business leaders, and activists. The panel topics are listed below and full panel descriptions are available on the conference website at http://www.cfp2008.org/wiki/index.php/Program . The CFP: Technology Policy 08 conversation has already begun in the virtual spaces connected to the conference. Even if you are unable to attend the conference this year, there are several opportunities to participate remotely. The guiding principles that ought to guide our policies are being debated on the conference blog. Social networking groups on Facebook and LinkedIn are providing new spaces for the CFP community to meet and discuss. Our organization Movement for the Promotion of Gender Equality in Liberia (MOPGEL) had been working in exile with the Liberian Refugees in Ghana at the Buduburam Refugee Camp since 2004. Liberian Refugees have been declared security threats by their host country Ghana. This situation in Ghana saw the deportation of some refugees and a six months time frame starring 15 April has been announced for the closure of the refugee camp. For the past four years, we were able to train local volunteers in information communication technologies (ICT), fashion design, catering, and beauty care under our training of trainers program intended for Liberia. To successfully return our activities to Liberia, fund raising, partnership, donation of equipment and international volunteers are very much vital to this task. We are therefore seeking the support of everyone. Please help and pass this information to friends and organizations that you think could be of help. For cash donation, please donate to: http://givemeaning.com/project/mopgel. For donation of equipment and others please contact me directly: htogba at mopgel.org, Please also contact: Dr. Marshall Conley, founder, I Care About Africa (ICAA) an NGO based in Canada. Dr. Conley had for the past two years supported our ICT, Medical and human rights projects. E-mail: conley at conley-international.org. We would very much appreciate your donation in: Computers, laptops, digital cameras, sewing machines, hairdressing equipment, medical and catering equipment MOPGEL was formed working from the premise that cultural and traditional practices denied girls and women access to training and education--in this manner curtailing their ability to improve livelihoods, literacy, and to make a better quality of life for themselves and their families. The founders decided to form a non-governmental organization in order to break the conspiracy of silence surrounding discrimination against women, children, disabled and youth to promote gender equality, and at the same time empower these target beneficiaries. Please visit our website: www.mopgel.org MOPGEL mission is to reduce discrimination and violence through Education, Economic Empowerment and Environmental programs. For this reason, programs which emphasize training, education, health care and development of human resources are imperative, and this is where MOPGEL aims to provide support and services. To this end,MOPGEL is working towards the goal of establishing and managing health clinics, academic schools and vocational training centers throughout Liberia. We would very much appreciate whatever assistance you could give us in our quest to return. Sincerely yours, Hisenburg Q.Togba Founder/Executive Director MOPGEL www.mopgel.org MOPGEL www.mopgel.org ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! The origin of these internet based attacks is unclear, however one of the goals does appear to be collection of data from compromised end user PC's. I have put together a paper covering the recent attacks and some recommendations for avoiding such attacks that includes the use of Linux on the desktop. These types of highly skilled and targeted attacks are relevant to any nonprofit organisation and particularly organisations that may be seen as a threat to political organisations or governments who would have the resources to launch such attacks.
